Welcome to Lower College
We take great pride in our vibrant and supportive community. At Cheltenham Italy, we ensure that your child receives top-notch education in the classroom, enjoys a wide range of opportunities in sports, music, and the arts, and benefits from exceptional pastoral care. Our holistic approach supports their growth from childhood to their teenage years.
Lower College begins in Grade 6, where both the academic and all-round curricula continue, but with a greater emphasis on pastoral development. These extra three years give students the chance to grow as leaders and learn responsibility. Unlike students who move on to upper college at the end of Grade 6, where they may find the environment intimidating, our Grade 6, 7 and 8 students have the opportunity to lead within the lower college, which prepares them for a smooth transition into upper college with intellectual curiosity, quiet confidence, and a caring attitude.
We give children the time and space to absorb what they learn. Our goal is for them to approach every task with an open mind, a curious spirit, and without limits.
We are committed to ensuring that your child receives an exceptional education that challenges them, puts a smile on their face, and sparks exciting conversations at home.
Students transition to Cheltenham Italy Upper College at the end of Grade 8.
School Day
At Cheltenham Italy, we understand the value of a well-rounded education, which is why we extend our school day until 3:30 PM, with additional optional activities available into the evening. Unlike many schools that end their day earlier, our carefully planned schedule ensures your child enjoys a truly comprehensive educational experience.
Our vibrant curriculum is enriched by a broad range of extra-curricular activities, giving each student the opportunity to explore their passions and talents outside the classroom. This holistic approach not only supports academic achievement but also encourages personal growth, teamwork, and the development of self-confidence.

Life in Our Lower College
Extra-curricular
Young minds possess an endless curiosity, and the Prep school years are the perfect time to nurture and inspire that inquisitiveness.
We are deeply committed to ensuring that every child in our care feels encouraged to explore their interests, develop their character, and discover lifelong passions.
All students participate in clubs, activities, and trips beyond the core curriculum. Each week, we offer a range of clubs, with some activities held during lunchtime and others as part of our comprehensive after-school programme.
Our Prep school also provides academic clubs, helping students focus on specific subject interests while enhancing broader learning skills and fostering a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Academic Extension
We are also dedicated to inspiring students to dive deeper into their subjects. Our Academic Extension activities are a core part of life at Cheltenham Italy, and include society meetings, debating, educational trips, and visits. This program not only cultivates a lifelong passion for learning but also strengthens university applications.
Community and the Environment
Community service and charity work are central to the values at Cheltenham Italy. Our students are encouraged to actively contribute to both the local and broader community. The school’s buildings are thoughtfully designed with sustainability in mind, ensuring a minimal carbon footprint. We teach students to be environmentally responsible, involving them in projects that promote sustainability and conservation.
Pastoral Care
At Cheltenham Italy, all staff are highly skilled and trained in pastoral care. Ensuring that children feel happy, safe, and supported at school is key to helping them reach their full potential.
We cultivate a true sense of belonging, so that every student is known as an individual and feels secure. This approach allows us to recognize when a bit of extra care and attention is needed.
Each child is part of a house, fostering loyalty, pride, and a sense of community. Pupils have the opportunity to interact with both older and younger students, strengthening the bonds of inclusivity and responsibility.
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
At Cheltenham Italy, English is the primary language of instruction.
We recognize that many of our students are learning in a language that is not their native tongue. To ensure all students can fully engage with the curriculum, we offer comprehensive EAL (English as an Additional Language) programmes. These programmes include group sessions and one-on-one tuition, along with supplementary teaching materials, online activities, and mentoring. Students receiving additional EAL support are closely monitored, with regular assessments to track their progress.
Please note that there is an extra charge for additional EAL support, which may be identified either at the time of your child’s admission or as they progress through their studies.
